Algeria became the 73rd shareholder of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) when it completed its membership process in October 2021.
Algeria has expressed its wish to become a country in which the Bank engages with investment and support for policy reforms. Preparations for this step are now underway.
The EBRD should be able to apply its know-how and experience to help develop the country’s private sector, promote sustainable energy supplies and enhance the quality and efficiency of its infrastructure.
Algeria originally applied for EBRD membership in March 2020 and the Bank’s Board of Governors subsequently voted in favour of the request. The membership process was completed with a formal exchange of documents.
